”Purje” project (”Sail”)

Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Oulu Deaconess Institute and KELA (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland)

”Purje” project supported Oulu University of Applied Sciences students under 26 in their studies and with challenges they face in everyday life.

Project aim

The project is aimed to support and promote

  • the mental growth and well-being of young people
  • social interaction skills and
  • learning abilities and entering working life

The project offered:

  • Individual support on handling life
  • intensive phases
  • weekly group sessions with physical exercise and creative activities
  • a web-based discussion and learning environment

The project started in January, 2006 and lasted till the end of year 2008. Twenty students were taken in yearly, and they operated in groups of 10. The project lasted for about 10 months for a participant. Plans for the student's future were settled during the last intensive phase.
