Good usability in learning environments

Research and product development project on accessibility in learning environments

This joint project starts development work on accessible learning environments in three higher education institutions in Eastern Finland: North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Savonia University of Applied Sciences and Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences.

The project will produce, for each of these three institutes, information on how to improve physical accessibility, solution models, and a practices model to help evaluate, develop and implement accessibility.

Project methods:

  • plan and start development work on improving physical accessibility in Eastern Finland higher education institutions
  • develop a design model, which help to develop and implement accessibility in already built or planned facilities
  • the design model to be developed will be available in education for both students and designers (a virtual model)
  • nationally (through the ESOK project), produce information on how to improve accessibility in built environment

As a result, the project will produce a design model, which helps to design accessible learning environments. The project also aims to pilot various locations with accessible learning environment. The goal is to offer good quality for everyone.
